Kerala Thrissur Tours

The name Thrissur is derived from 'Tiru-Shiva-Perur' (the town with the name of Lord Shiva).It is the cultural capital of Kerala. It is situated in central Kerala, India.

It is the fourth largest city in Kerala. The town is built around a hillock top where the Vadakkumnathan temple is located.

Thrissur can also be called as the golden capital of India , since there is a business of about Rs.700 crore of Gold every year in this city.

Thrissur is located at 10.52° N 76.21° E . Thrissur has a tropical climate. The best time to visit Thrissur is from September to February.

• Anakkayam -It is famous for its lake with cool and placid waters. The place is known for its exquisite natural beauty.

• Shakthan Thampuran Palace It is also known as Vadakkekara Palace. This Palace is a classic example of the Dutch- Kerala style of architecture.

• Guruvayur (Pilgrim Centre) - it is known as the Dwarka of the south and is one of India's most important pilgrimage centers. The Sree Krishna Swami Temple draws many tourists round the year. The temple is dedicated to Krishna known here as Guruvayurappan or the Lord of Guruvayur. • Tours To Thrissur Zoo - the zoo has a great variety of animals and birds and therefore attracts tourists. Animals like sloth bear, species of birds and deer, snakes etc are found here.

• Athirapally and Vazhachal Waterfalls - the beautiful waterfalls of Athirapally and Vazhachal, 5 km apart. The waterfall is 80 feet high.

• Archeological & Art Museum - It has a good collection of wood carvings metal sculptures, Kathakali figures and ancient jewellery

• Kerala Sahitya Academy and Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy - Kerala Sahitya Academy aims at the development of Malayalam Language and Literature There is a library attached to the Academy which consists of the General Section & the Research Section the aim of the Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy is to promote the sculpture, painting and visual arts.

• Cheruthuruthy (Kerala Kalamandalam) - 29 km from Thrissur is Cheruthuruthy. There is a well known academy where the best of Kerala's Kathakali performers get their training. The academy also offers training in music, drama, and other dance forms including Mohiniyattam, Koodiyattam and Ottam Thullal .

• Peechi Dam - it is an irrigation project 23 km from Thrissur where boating facilities at the reservoir is available.

• Vadakkumnathan Temple - The temple is famous for ' Thrissur Pooram ' festival. It is a big tourist attraction. There is a grand display of richly caparisoned elephants carrying the deity around the main temple, spectacular firework and drum concerts at this festival. The festival is celebrated here in April -May every year. The temple is built on a Kerala style of architecture.

• NEW CHURCH or the Church of Our Lady of Dollars [called Puthenpalli locally], It is the biggest church in South Asia . The Metropolitan of the Chaldean Syrian Church (the name used for the Church of the East in India ) is also headquartered in Thrissur.
